Biography

Prof. Jose A. Gomez Ibanez

Derek C. Bok Professor of Urban Planning and Public Poliy, Harvard University

Jose A. Gomez-Ibanez is the Derek C. Bok Professor of Urban Planning and Public Policy at Harvard University, where he holds a joint appointment at the Graduate School of Design and the John F. Kennedy School of Government. He teaches courses in economics, infrastructure and transportation policy in both schools. Professor Gomez-Ibanez' research interests are in transportation, infrastructure, and economic development. At Harvard, Gomez-Ibanez currently serves as the faculty co-chair (with Henry Lee) of the Infrastructure in a Market Economy executive program at the Kennedy School. In the past he has been the faculty chair of the Masters in Urban Planning Program at the Design School (2001-2004), of the Masters in Public Policy Program at the Kennedy School (1996-1998), of doctoral programs at the Design School (1992-1995), and of the Department of Urban Planning and Design at the Design School (1984-1988). Professor Gomez-Ibanez received his A.B. in government from Harvard College in 1970 and his M.P.P. and Ph.D. in Public Policy from Harvard in 1972 and 1975, respectively.

Jose H. Botelho de Medeiros

Deputy Director, International Development, Brisa

Jose is a graduate from the Ecole Polytechnique Federal de Lausanne in Switzerland and holds an MBA from Nova University of Lisbon, Portugal. His working career started as a manufacturing engineering at Alcatel, a multinational Infrastructure Telecommunication Group. Since 2006, he is Deputy Director at Brisa for the International Development. Nowadays he supports Brisa main projects in the USA and cooperates with Brisa’s Northwest Parkway Concession in Denver, Colorado and Brisa main office in Atlanta, Georgia. He is member IBTTA, International Bridge Tunnel and Turnpike Association.

Francisco X. Gonzalez

Managing Director & Head of Infrastructure investment Banking for Latin America, Goldman Sachs

Francisco Gonzales is managing director at Goldman Sachs and head of Infrastructure Investment Banking for Latin America. He joined Goldman Sachs in 1989 as a financial analyst in the municipal finance group. He was an associate in corporate finance covering Latin American clients from 1994 to 1997 and then moved to the Mexico office as an executive director. He became managing director in 2005. Francisco is an advisory director at the Conservation Trust of Puerto Rico, a land conservation endowment sponsored by the US Department of the Interior. Francisco earned a BA in Economics from Harvard College in 1989 and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1993.

 

Jyoti Shukla

Head, PPIAF, World Bank

Ms. Shukla is currently the Program Manager of the Public-Private Infrastructure Advisory Facility. PPIAF is a multi-donor facility managed by the World Bank on behalf of its donors providing small technical assistance grants to developing countries to help develop public-private partnerships in infrastructure. Prior to joining PPIAF, Ms. Shukla worked with the World Bank, which she joined as a Young Professional in 1994. Her most recent assignment with the World Bank was as Sector Leader for the Finance, Private Sector Development and Infrastructure portfolio in the Caribbean region. Prior to her appointment as Sector Leader for the Caribbean, she worked as a Senior Economist on issues relating to private participation in infrastructure in several countries in Latin America, including Bolivia, Peru and Honduras.

Ms. Shukla is an Indian national and holds a Masters degree in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics as well as a Master in Public Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.
